Nicolas Kyrillou

Nicolas Kyrillou was born in Cyprus. He lives and works between Nicosia and Paris. His work has been exhibited at the Louvre Museum with the Laboratoire Matière Espace des Beaux-Arts de Paris, at the Centre Wallonie Bruxelles and at the Palais des Études des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He recently completed a residency at the Casa Wabi Foundation in Mexico, and was the winner of the first collaborative residency between the Nicosia Contemporary Art Center (NiMAC) and the Casa Wabi Foundation. This year he was one of the winners of the Mennour Emergence Prize and this summer he took part in two group exhibitions in Nicosia and Limassol in Cyprus.

Participating in a programme where many institutions around the world are included as well as his home country is for him a great opportunity for artistic and personal growth. After his last residency, Nicolas really understood how much he needs this change of environment and exchange between other people and me. His interest in CDCD lies in the dialogue and exchange. It is an opportunity long enough in time to learn and get inspired by what these journeys have to offer in the process of artistic development. The questions concerning the impact of colonial heritage are very important to him and his work is treating the notion of layers. He believes that this project will allow each resident to unfold some layers of their own identity.

The digital reflection titled Hybrid Untitled, created by Nicolas Kyrillou, resonates with and responds to the experiences gained during his one-month residency at Nubuke Foundation in Accra, Ghana. It not only reflects on the residency itself but also extends into the post-production phase, exploring the ongoing processes and transformations that follow the residency experience.
