Bona Dyssou
Bona Dyssou is a Budapest based theatre director and performance artist.
She studied at the Budapest University of Theatre and Film Arts, and has a Master’s degree in theatre directing from the University of Mozarteum, Salzburg (2022). In her previous work, she dealt with the theatrical representation of violence, homicide, time and memory through the story of a serial killer girl in Hungary, based on real events, court documents, and also adapted a novel (Piroska, Ódry Theatre, Budapest 2019). She created a large stage production of Witold Gombrowicz’s Yvonne, Princess of Burgundy (2020, Budapest, Ódry Theatre).
Her recent work Edith Bar (Budapest, 2022) has explored initiation ceremonies and rites of life stages, experimenting with the fusion of happening, celebration and stage shows. Her recent show Riccardo! (Fészek Artist Club, 2024) is based on Shakespeare’s Richard III, historical events of the War of Roses and the 2015 reburial of Richard III.

Bonna is honoured to be part of the CDCD programme. She considers it a very important milestone in her professional life, as the project’s theme aligns with her professional and personal interests. Bonna is grateful for the chance to collaborate with professionals, artists, and institutions from all over the world.
It is vital to gain an understanding of each other’s experiences and to consider how they can inform our thinking. We can first initiate constructive dialogues among ourselves within the framework of the programme, and through our artworks, then we can extend this dialogue to the wider public and involve them in it, facilitating further dialogue. It is extraordinary to engage in reflection and dialogue on the legacy of colonialism, which is both our shared history and a key area of focus for our collective future. Bonna is eagerly anticipating the opportunity to connect with the participating institutions and gain insights into the local contexts. She is committed to immersing herself in the personal and local experiences that the individuals engaged with during the three-year programme will share with her, and to create artworks based on these experiences and connections.

The digital reflection titled The_verysecretstory of the country of XYLMNOPQ, created by Bona Dyssou, resonates with and responds to the experiences gained during her one-month residency at MuCiv in Rome, Italy. It not only reflects on the residency itself but also extends into the post-production phase, exploring the ongoing processes and transformations that follow the residency experience.
